How to find us
"I am the woman with long braids."
We can carpool from 8778 Poplar Creek Road. The will be 12 passenger van going! We will be driving about 2 hours to a homestead near Waynesboro for a tour and and potluck picnic. We will be visiting Doug Kalmer. He will serve us cookies baked in his solar oven, if the sun is shining brightly of course! We can also tour a home off the grid as well that belongs to a neighbor of Doug's. A new delight is a vehicle that runs on veggie oil will be there too!
Directions to carpool location
There are 7 -12 folks traveling from Nashville. Looks there there will be 17 of us or so at this event. There is a 12 passenger van all or most of us can go in.
I communicated with Doug. We are still on for tomorrow. Bring rain gear. There are indoor spaces for us. We can have our pot luck indoors if we need to.
We will be gathering at 11 am at 8778 Poplar Creek Road. (David and Donna Dunlap's, Cindy's brother and sister in law).
This is in Bellvue, West of downtown Nashville.
Taking I40 west to McCory Lane Exit.
Turn Left at end of ramp
Go to stop sign at Poplar Creek Road
Turn Right. (**see alternate route at end of this email)
Road is curvy going downhill. Then the road flattens out. When it flattens out, look for an unpainted big gray barn on the left.
Across the street from that is a driveway that has 2 houses and a big shed on it. The first house is a little farm house with a big house behind it. Follow the Driveway and park in front of the big shed behind the big house. We can use the restroom just off the carport entrance of that house.
The mail box is on the barn side of the road.
Bring potluck, gas money for driver, and maybe a notebook and/camera to make notes for yourself. I will bring means of nametags so we can remember each others names better.
Cell phones don't work out at the departure point. I can be reached on mine before 10:30 tomorrow. 615-310-2904.
House phone at my house is 876-2635. We will pullout of the driveway to start our trip at 11:20.
*** Alternate route is go out highway 100 just past Loveless cafe and turn right onto McCory Lane. Continue to stop sign at Poplar Creek Road. Turn Left onto Poplar Creek Road. Directions same as above from this point.
Bring potluck picnic food, drink, picnic blanket, chairs, bug spray, notebook, maybe a camera. Plan to give the car driver some gas money.
Here is what Doug says we will be seeing and some links:
I am having an Open House and giving several small group tours Sunday, 1-5pm. Solar thermal only, no PV except to drive a SHW (solar hot water) circulation pump, earth sheltered passive solar home, PV pumped SHW system on the house, gravity SHW system on shop/studio, batch SHW in attached greenhouse. Hopefully it will be sunny, and I`ll be handing out sun baked cookies from my www.sunoven.com , and sun tea. I`ve done this before, for the National solar tour and the sunshine event. See more at-
http://www.builditsol...
Also, I' m also working on converting an evacuated tube SHW collector to a heat pipe type, and I`ll have it on display.
